SCALE AND INNOVATION PROFILES OF FRENCH AUTOMOBILE DEALERS (2000-2004)
  • Information: In September of 2002, the European Union modified the competition rules governing vertical restraints in the European automobile industry. As a consequence almost all automobile manufacturers stop enforcing the exclusive territory restraint on their dealers. This increased competition in the downstream segment of the market as dealers interacted with others located beyond the original territory. Simultaneously, dealers were engaged in adopting IT innovations to better manage parts, payroll, or consumer relations. This present a unique opportunity to study how an exogenous increase in competition in one specific industry affects the likelihood of adopting several potentially related innovations. I have used this data in a research paper co-authored with Tobias Kretschmer and José C. Pernías:

Competitive Pressure and the Adoption of Complementary Innovations

  • Data Format: There are 639 observations of 16 variables in a comma delimited (CSV) file.
